OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Nearly three weeks after rapper "The Jacka" was gunned down in East Oakland, police have not named a suspect and have not made any arrests despite being close enough to the killers to hear the gunshots that took his life.
The February 2nd homicide occurred on MacArthur Boulevard near 94th Avenue at p.m. on a Monday night. An unidentified gunman escaped.

"The case is actively being investigated," said Officer Johnna Watson, Oakland Police Department Public Information Officer.
"We continue to follow up leads and encourage community assistance through tips to help solve this case. At this time we are not releasing any additional information," she added.
Oakland Police would not respond to CBS SF's requests about whether there were any suspects, whether witnesses were coming forward, what the motive was, and whether they were confident they would eventually make an arrest and conviction.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KABC) -- Bay Area rapper Dominic Newton, better known by his stage name "The Jacka," was killed Monday in a shooting in East Oakland, police confirmed.
The year-old was shot in the head near MacArthur Boulevard and 94th Avenue around 8 p.m.
Officers say he was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Oakland police are investigating but had not identified any suspects or made any arrests as of Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, fans have been gathering in Oakland to pay their tribute.
Many are also offering their condolences on social media.
The Jacka was active in the Bay Area rap scene since , when he released his first album with the group Mob Figaz. The group sold , copies of the album.
He self-published a solo album in and released more than a dozen albums and mixtapes since. Throughout his career, he collaborated with numerous influential Bay Area artists, including E, Andre Nickatina,
Yukmouth, Messy Marv and Keak Da Sneak.
