What Are Crystals?

Crystals are a type of solid material where molecules connect in a specific, repeating pattern. The pattern causes crystals to form really interesting shapes!

There are seven basic crystal shapes. These shapes are: Cubic, Orthorhombic, Hexagonal, Trigonal, Triclinic, Tetragonal, and Monoclinic. Crystals form geometric shapes. What shape a crystal makes depends on type of molecules and atoms in that material.

How Do Crystals Form?

Crystals form in a process called crystallization. Crystals can form in a few different ways.

1. If certain liquids cool and then harden. This

   These lovely snowflakes are easy to make and grow overnight. They make great holiday ornaments and can be kept for years.

   Big Alum Crystal

   Alum crystals are easy to grow from a simple cooking ingredient. The large, clear crystals resemble raw diamonds.

   Sugar Crystals

   Grow Rock Candy or Sugar Crystals

   Most crystals you can grow look pretty, but aren&#;t good to eat. The biggest exception is rock candy, which consists of sugar or sucrose crystals. You can use any type of sugar you have handy, plus these are easy crystals to color and flavor.

   All you need is a rock and some vinegar to grow either needle-like prisms or branched crystal ferns. The pure mineral is clear or white (aragonite), but you&#;ll get colored crystals if you grow the crystals onto a rock.

   While you could eat salt crystals, they aren&#;t likely as good as rock candy. That&#;s okay, because the cubic crystals are beautiful to look at! You can use any type of salt and may enjoy exploring the different appearances you&#;l

   Wenn in der Natur Kristalle wachsen, dauert das viele Tausend Jahre - mindestens. Tatsächlich geht das mit ein bisschen Hilfe viel schneller! Wir zeigen euch, wie ihr echte Kristalle züchten könnt!

   Zum Kristalle züchten braucht ihr:

   für 1 Kristall

   • ein breites Glas oder einen großen Plastikbecher
   • drei Zahnstocher
   • einen hölzernen Schaschlikspieß
   • etwas Blumendraht und Wolle
   • g Kalium-Aluminium-Sulfat, kurz: Kali-Alaun (das bekommt ihr in der Apotheke)
   • ml Wasser

   1. Schritt: Gerüst für den Kristall

   Damit die Kristalle einen Stern ergeben, müsst ihr ihnen ein entsprechen- des Gerüst basteln. Nehmt dazu die drei Zahnstocher und verbindet sie mit dem Draht, wie ihr es auf dem Bild sehen könnt

   2. Schritt: Sternenstrahlen umwickeln

   Umwickelt die Strahlen des Sterns mit der Wolle, jeweils von außen zur Mitte. Dort bildet ihr ganz am Schluss eine Schlaufe. Durch die zieht ihr das Ende des Fadens und schneidet ihn dann ab. Aber nicht zu kurz: Ihr braucht das Ende noch zum Aufhängen!

   3. Schritt: Stern aufhängen

   Legt den Schaschlikspieß quer über das Glas und knotet den Wollfaden daran fest – und zwar so, dass der Stern weder den Bod

   Gör dina egna sockerkristaller för stengodis

   Rock Candy Ingredienser

   • 1 kopp vatten
   • 3 koppar bordssocker (sackaros)
   • ren glasburk
   • penna eller smörkniv
   • sträng
   • panna eller skål för att koka vatten och göra lösningen
   • sked eller rörstav

   Hur man odlar rockgodis

   1. Samla ditt material.
   2. Du kanske vill odla en frökristall, en liten kristall för att tynga din sträng och ge en yta för större kristaller att växa på. En frökristall är inte nödvändig så länge du använder ett grovt snöre eller garn.
